FTC Warns Against Voter Registration ScamsThe Federal Trade Commission sent out a consumer alert about possible identity theft scams associated with bogus voter registration communications. It said to watch out for unsolicited e-mails or phone calls from people claiming to represent local election boards or civic groups. These ask for the victim's Social Security or credi card number to confirm voting eligibility or registration. Such attempts should be reported to FTC online at www.ftc.gov or by phone at 1-877-FTC-HELP. |
